The Cluster Extraction operator can reduce a point cloud to a set of AABBs that represent 'clusters' of points. It uses Euclidean cluster extraction, a geometric algorithm for segmenting subjects within a larger cloud. It can be used to coarsely isolate people and objects within a scene for location tracking, presence detection, or to prepare regions of interest for further processing.

The implementation of Euclidian cluster extraction is provided by PCL. A concise theoretical primer is provided about it [here](https://pcl.readthedocs.io/projects/tutorials/en/master/cluster_extraction.html#theoretical-primer).
